Fashion: Fuller Skirts

Heading into fall and winter we start to pull out the fuller skirts from our closets. These skirts are full and flared with pleats deep enough to keep small change in. As they sing in Hairspray: "Give it motion like the ocean". These skirts are made for swinging those hips!

A pronounced waist, squared shoulders and a fitted jacket over a lacy top make this a fab fashion statement. Finish the look with some heavier shoes with chunky heels.

The pleated full-skirt on the left is from Club Monaco. They have a great collection of chic and modern fashions that are timeless and classic.

You might recognize the background of these pictures. They were taken at night in the area of Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas.
Check out the complete photoshoot at the "Las Vegas at Night" link.

As you can imagine, the streets of Las Vegas, can be rather crowded in the evening as people walk from casino to casino. That's a lot faster that if you were trying to navigate the strip by car in the evening! It was challenging to do a photoshoot as hundreds of people walked by. Occasionally folks just stopped to watch and ask who the model was. I told the photographer to say "Andrea Nicole Baker" in a tone that suggested that the person should have known exactly who I am. Funny thing is that a few people actually asked for to have their picture taken with me. No point in passing up an opportunity to say they met a true celebrity. So I had my 15 minutes of fame.

This cream colored skirt on the left is "AQUA".
"Aqua" is exclusively available at Bloomingdales. The marketing line goes:

"Aqua is for a girl who likes to have fun. She is a total individual who is always one step ahead of the trends. The Aqua girl's unique style sets the trend season after season." Hmmm. A perfect description of moi!

Check out the fashion link to "Aqua" for fall 2007.

The photo was taken at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, one of my favorite places to spend an afternoon.

D'ecolletage ("D['e]`col`le*tage")

There is nothing like a great looking D'ecolletage (a low cute neckline / sexy cleavage) to leave no question in the doubter's mind that you are all woman! There are many ways you can get this great look: (Thanks to my many girlfriends who contributed their ideas to this post).

1. Grow your own. Check out the hormone therapy FAQ link. If you are transitioning to being a full time woman this is a significant part of your plan. For a part time crossdresser this might not be the solution.

2. Implants. Check out the breast augmentation and implant info. Again, for a part-time crossdresser this might not be what she is looking for.

3. There are several specialty bras avaiable today. Check out the "Diva" at Classic Curves. This is truly the quickest and easiest method to get great looking cleavage. See the link for Classic Curves.

4. There are a variety of "tapes" that you can bind yourself from one side to the other, pushing those lovely twosomes together & bind the other side.

The strength & durability of the tape is critical. There are several types of clear medical tape you can use to gather your pectoral muscles to create cleavage. Many girls have told me that they use clear duct tape. Most people say "ouch" when clear duct tape is mentioned but it really does not hurt anymore than the medical tape. You must have removed all body hair where you intend to apply the tape. To prevent slippage of the tape what is done before application of the duct tape is clean the area where the tape will be applied with astringent to remove as much oil from the skin as possible then apply the tape starting on one side of the chest under the armpit and parallel with the lower edge of the pectoral muscle securing the end of the tape there.

After the tape is secure push the pectoral muscle toward the center of the chest while pulling the tape tight. While keeping the tape tight reach around to the other pectoral muscle and pull it toward the center of the chest and then secure the tape under the other armpit.

Depending on how you place the tape in relation to your pectoral muscle determines whether you have tight cleavage or fuller breasts to display. Using this method you can gather almost a B cup breast. You then use a set of small breast forms in a pushup bra to finish the effect.

It is best to remove the tape in a warm shower which helps loosen the adhesive. There will be red marks left for a few hours after removal of the tape. When the tape is removed there will be residual adhesive which can be removed with a citrus type cleaner like "Goo Go" which is formulated to remove adhesive labels.

Clear duct tape rather than the clear medical tape is preferred because the medical tape tends to stretch and the duct tape doesn't by virtue of having a cloth type reinforcement.

See "Creating Cleavage" for a graphic description of the above.

5. Another option that works pretty well for short term effects (like photoshoots) is the "Tour de Boobs" method.

While taping works for lots of girls, some of us have more trouble with it (blisters (ouch!) and long-lasting marks from it)
The idea is to make what is essentially a big rubberband out of a bicycle innertube which will hold "the girls" together without adhesive. To make one, purchase a new innertube and some rubber cement. Cut off the stem and wrap the tube around your chest. (Not too tight yet). Mark the proper length to just fit around you and cut to that length. Fold back one end about 5 centimeters, clean both ends well with alcohol or acetone (no smoking allowed here!) then glue the ends together by placing one end inside the other.

Hopefully what you will end up with is a big rubberband which will stretch enough to fit pretty snuggly around your chest. When you put it on, you can work what excess chest skin you have together to simulate the cleavage you desire. Combined with some artfully applied makeup and your breast forms, this can be pretty convincing and you don't run as much risk of damaging the tender skin on your chest and underarms. This method doesn't work so well for a long night out (at least for me) since as you sweat (excuse me, boys sweat, girls glisten!) your skin may tend to slip back to it's usual place and your
cleavage tends to disappear. (It's a pain to keep running to the ladies room to recreate your boobs!)

There are also several vitimin supplements & creams that claim to work. Google "breast creams and supplements". Success rate on these vary tremendously. I am dubious about any of these truly being effective.

Fashion Faves

I adore fashion. It definitely has something to do with fashion being a self-expression of my style and personal image. Fashion is constantly evolving. As a woman who, hopefully, experiences significant personal growth, I try to use fashion to bring that out. I have been told that my style is feminine, classy and girly with a subtle (or not so subtle) sexiness. That description fits me to a "T".

Check out the link to my "Fashion Page". There are links to Fashion Sources, stores where I like to shop and Fashion Blogs.

Also view "My Galleria" where you will see quite a variety of photoshoots that I have done over the years.

Glam.com is one of my favorite fashion sites. I strongly suggest subscribing to the daily email. Lots of great information!

I subscribe to the following fashion magazines: Vogue, Elle, InStyle and Lucky, On occasion I will pick up a copy of Bazaar, Glamour or ShopNow. I love the fashion spreads because they truly show the ultimate in glam (whether or not they are practical for wearing anywhere but the catwalk).

Another great source of fashion information are video podcasts from itunes. I subscribe to Fashion Network, Style Videos, Nordstrom Fashion Videos and others. These are all free and can be viewed on your PC or Mac (or on your video ipod).

One of my favorite fashion lines in International Concepts (INC) which is sold at Macys and Bloomingdales.

I love shopping for an outift and then finding just the right accessories to go with it. The right shoes, handbag, stockings, jewelry, etc. It does not all happen during the same shopping trip. It just happens over time. For example, I'll spot a pair of earrings that I sense will go well with a particular outfit and slowly it all comes together.

Sometimes I am very purposeful when I am shopping. At other times I just browse to see what I can discover. It's very relaxing and enjoyable to chat with the salesladies about the new fashions and accessories or to describe exactly what I am looking for.

Enjoy being a girl! I sure do!

Feminine Deportment

For many TG women, being out in public in real-life situations is a very important and rewarding part of the total feminine experience. In order to truly enjoy the feminine experience not only must you dress in an appropriate manner but you must conduct yourself in a manner that says "woman", NOT "man in a dress".

Feminine body language includes how you walk, how you carry your handbag, how you put on and take off a coat, how you sit, how you stand, how use your your hands and every little gesture. It's really all about integrating feminine movement with your lovely outer appearance. Combine your cute fashion style, your feminine deportment and a sweet femme voice and everything about you says "female".

I remember (quite some time ago) being "read" in public. I was walking in a mall with a couple of TG friends. Two teenage girls walked by and said "There goes some drag queens". I was a lot less concerned by being "read" than being called something I am not. I did not take the opportunity to give the girls an education there on the spot. Lets just say that I am much more used to receiving compliments when I am out than being "read".

A feminine voice is also a necessary part of the mix. It's all about reaching the proper pitch and tone and then being able to
stay there as you converse. Feminine conversation, expression and listening skills also differ significantly from a mans. Being comfortable with feminine speech and expression while, at the same time, moving your head, shoulders, hands, and torso in a more feminine way is what we must strive for.

All of this takes time and practice! There are many resources on the web. I strongly suggest you check out FemImage by Denae Doyle. See the link to her page on the right. Her DVDs are well worth the cost. Even better, schedule a personal consulting session with her.

The picture on the left is Denae and myself on the Northern California beach front on a chilly evening.

I'll be sharing a lot more on this topic very soon!

A Successful Crossdresser

I am a trangdendered person who, from the earliest time I can remember, was always focused on being out and passable as a girl. For me that has always been the definition of "A Successful Crossdresser". To be out and passable as a woman.
Others may not agree with the definition. So admit that this is my own personal view which I have no intention of forcing on others.

There are many aspects to being passable. Deportment, dress, voice, attitude, personality and perception among others.
My blog will go in depth on each of these aspects. Please feel free to share your thoughts and reactions to my experiences.

Just a little bit about me. All my friends tell me I am quite the "girly girl". Yes, I adore pink and definitely have lots of pink outfits. You'll never see me out and around in anything but a classy and feminine outfit.

More to come soon!
