91 heading to 100 and a contest

I now have 91 followers of my blog.  That's really great. I can't wait to wake up one morning and finally reach 100 followers. So let's have a contest to make this exciting.  The contest will be to guess on which day I reach 100 followers. Whomever is closest by the number of days to the actual date that the 100th person joins my blog.

Please post your guesses to this blog post.

So what will be the prize for the winner? I'll tailor something specific to the winner. Maybe a special photoshoot  or dinner and an evening out together. I'll be giving this some more thought.  So go ahead and start to post your guesses. I have a feeling this will be happening sooner rather than later. 9 more to go.

Photoshoot - Sweet Lolita

Penelope Cruz in Giorgio Armani custom organza gown

My chice for the best gown!
Penelope looked like a modern day princess in her off-the-shoulder periwinkle gown featuring a fitted bodice, full skirt and a generous train. She accessorized with a matching clutch and platinum and diamond jewelry by Chopard that included pear-shaped necklace (56 carat), cluster earring (15 carats) and fancy-shape line bracelet (43 carats). Her side parted hair was styled in a gently waved retro bob. Keeping the focus on the eyes, she wore thick kohl liner, eye lash extensions coated with layers of mascara, and pale pink lipstick.

Katy Perry Lashes

Just saw that Katy Perry launched her new line of eyelashes last week. They are now available at ULTA!

There are four different styles — “Cool Kitty,” “Oh, Honey,” “Sweetie Pie” and “Oh, My” — which each retail for $6.99 and “match any mood from innocent to vixen,” she shares.

Perry says her favorites are the “Oh, Honey” thanks to the “vintage flick at the corners,” and the “Cool Kitty,” which she uses for evening. “They have manicured tips and can add the ideal finishing touch for a smoky look that will make people purr as you pass,” she shares.

Katy Perry can apply false lashes in less than one minute, a trick she first learned on YouTube. “My lashes are one of my top beauty secrets,” she tells PEOPLE. “Not all of us are blessed with really super-long and full, natural lashes, so false lashes can be our secret weapon to get a fresh new look.”

Athens Meetup

A group of us Atlanta Lolitas drove to Athens, Ga to meetup with the Athens and Augusta, Ga Lolitas. A yummy lunch at a cute bistro followed by shopping and then photos in the UGS gardens. . Ellis - thanks for organizing.

“He that troubleth his own house . . . shall inherit the wind.”

Last night I decided, for some random reason to watch the 1960 movie, Inherit The Wind. This is the dramatization of the famous Scopes Monkey trail in 1925.

Scopes was found guilty, of violating Tennessee's Butler Act which made it unlawful to teach evolution in any state-funded school, but the verdict was overturned on a technicality and he went free. The trial drew intense national publicity, as national reporters flocked to the small town of Dayton, Tennessee, to cover the big-name lawyers representing each side. William Jennings Bryan, three-time presidential candidate for the Democrats, argued for the prosecution, while Clarence Darrow, the famed defense attorney, spoke for Scopes.

The movie is about Teacher B.T. Cates, in Hillsborough, Tennessee who is arrested for teaching Darwin's theories. Famous lawyer Henry Drummond defends him; fundamentalist politician Matthew Brady prosecutes. This is a very thinly disguised rendition of the 1925 "Scopes monkey trial" with debates between Clarence Darrow and William Jennings Bryan taken largely from the transcripts.

The book,"Summer for the Gods: The Scopes Trial and America's Continuing Debate Over Science and Religion" is quite an interesting history of the actual courtroom case (which of course was dramatized by Hollywood in the movie (and in the plays which preceded it).

The quote in the Title comes from the scene where Reverend Brown gives a public sermon:
"The extreme nature of Brown’s sermon—which damns Cates and all those who support him, including his own daughter—leads Brady to voice a different opinion, one that contradicts Hillsboro’s brand of fundamentalism. With Brown having whipped the crowd into a zealous frenzy, Brady becomes uncomfortable and outright objects to Brown’s treatment of his daughter. Brady reminds Brown of a quote from the Bible, “He that troubleth his own house . . . shall inherit the wind.” Brady implies that Brown, by bringing condemnation on his own daughter, will leave himself with nothing but his own hot air."

So now jump nearly 85 years into the future and see who is trying to return us to those wonderful days of yore.

Rick Santorum told supporters of the conservative Tea Party movement at a Columbus hotel that "President Obama adheres to some phony theology. Oh, not a theology based on the bible. A different theology."

Mitt Romney announced that Obama has "fought against religion". Whatever that means.

Franklin Graham declines to extend Obama the courtesy of accepting that the President is a Christian. "He has said he is a Christian. So I have just to assume he is."

In addition to all that the Republicans in Richmond, Va have declared all out war on women. They’ve pushed “personhood” legislation that would eviscerate a woman's right to choose and limit access to contraception – and even tried to mandate that women undergo an invasive procedure that is so abhorrent it’s not to be believed.

As if Rick's ignorance could not get any worse than this.
"I understand why Barack Obama wants to send every kid to college, because of their indoctrination mills, absolutely," he said. "The indoctrination that is going on at the university level is a harm to our country.”

Santorum knows full well that educated people are much less susceptible to the kind of religious indoctrination that he espouses. That's why he is so scared of education.

So there you have have the party of "NO". No ideas, No compromise, No vision of the future only of turning the clock back 100 years. Relevance as to the challenges facing the US in 2012 and beyond? Absolutely NONE.

All Santorum (and his fellow Republicans) will be let with is their own hot air.

Frill - Why a Lolita Convention?

The excitement about FRILL, from all the Lolitas I chat with, both in person and online (and from everywhere in the US), is truly awe-inspiring and breathtaking.
We are all at various level of experience with the fashion that we love. We use social media to the utmost to learn from others. Whether it's sales, coords, makeup, wigs, accessories, fashions and so much more. We even go to the various anime conventions (of which there are so many) both large and small in order to meet other Lolitas and have a Lolita-type experience. Maybe a Fashion Show, a Panel on some Lolita topic, or even a Lolita Tea Party or meetup of some kind. But we're only an after thought at these cons.

Attacks on Women's Health by Republicans continue

The attacks on women's health by Congressional Republicans are appalling. A panel from an oversight hearing held in the House yesterday on women's access to birth control. The only thing was...there weren't ANY women. Please take a look at this.

Who do these Republican's represent? The most extreme views that do not represent Americans in 2012. But is important to know their agenda and fight it. When good people do nothing bad things happen.

“There is nothing new about the Republicans’ attacks on our family planning decisions. In fact from the moment they came into power Republicans in the House of Representatives have been waging a war on women’s health."

Patty Murray on Senate Floor.

I'm mad as hell and not going to take it anymore.
